Singapore

Singapore is a very modern city but if you look carefully you can pick out some wonderful gems from it’s past. The mix of cultures makes for some wonderfully diverse culinary delights. I had lived here as a child so it was great to get back and see if I could remember any of it.

One of the places I could remember as a child was a place called the Tiger Balm Gardens also called Haw Par Villa gardens.  These are not a well known tourist site, a little off the beaten path, but well worth a visit. The better known Gardens by the bay include some of the biggest indoor gardens I’ve ever seen housed in spectacular greenhouses one of which contains an amazing indoor waterfall.

The main focus of our visit was the Grand Prix.  This was the first ever Formula one race to be held at night under flood lights which gave us the day time to explore the city.  One of these days out exploring we took the  wonderful walk known as the Southern ridges hike.  It links four separate parks and gardens and is a great way to spend a day away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
