Sri Lanka

A beautiful teardrop off the coast of India.  A fantastic mixture of culture, food, historic sites and glorious beaches, oh and Elephants because you can’t forget the wildlife.  This was one of the places we both talked about wanting to visit when we first met.  So it was a must do for us at the top of our list.  Lynne wanting to visit the national parks to see wild Elephants and myself to visit the temples and historic sites.

We started off in Colombo but didn’t stay long,  just one night with a very early start the next morning as we transited by train through to our first major stop Habarana to visit the spectacular historical sites in the area. Our post will give you a great insight into adventures and perhaps inspire you to visit yourself. Next it was onto the coast to relax and explore the southwest region. We based ourselves in the beach resort of Unawatuna where we took a cooking lesson with a wonderful family and visited the historic city of Galle.

Last but by no means least we headed over to Yala National Park.  Here we got the chance to come face to face with many of the animals Sri Lanka is famous for. Including the elusive wild leopard and of course the beautiful majestic elephants.  I have to say the leopard is one of the highlights of the trip; beautiful animals and very much endangered unfortunately.
