We ended up in Croatia purely by chance. We were in the Venice Italy, the weather was wet and rainy with the prospect of more wind and rain to over the coming days. Our options were to return home early or chase the sun in the opposite direction. So we packed up the our campervan and off we went.
We had done a little research over the years and there were places we had seen that we wanted to explore, One of those places were the Plitvice Lakes. This site is away from the usual tourist sites but is quite well know so they have the facilities but surprisingly not massively busy.
After this we needed somewhere to chill out that didn’t take us any further from home. We chose the Istrian coast which turned out to be a great place to spend a week or so.
How did we get to the Istria Area?
We drove to the Istria from the Plitvice Lakes National park and the directions can be found here.
The journey was just over 3 hrs, 240km approx and a mix of motorway and A roads and some smaller country lanes.
The park is a 295-sq.-km forest reserve in central Croatia. It’s known for a chain of 16 terraced lakes, joined by waterfalls, that extend into a limestone canyon.
